This fitness test is commonly described in PE textbooks and can be used to analyse energy system interplay and causes of fatigue. In previous years I have used a stop-watch and whistle to time the 7 second sprints and 23 second recovery periods - which means I spent most of the time with my head over the stopwatch! After searching without success for an audio file of this test I decided to make my own last year and use it from my phone with a bluetooth speaker. I used it again this week and thought that other PE teachers might find this useful so I will share it here. Note this version is 8 x 7 seconds (every 30 seconds). I had a few days in Portland this week so packed in the running gear. That's just a habit now whenever we travel away - going for a run somewhere different is a great way to explore the area. The obvious track was to head along near the beach and out the pier. I also went past the Fawthrop Lagoon (home of the Portland Parkrun) which has a track all the way around, which I didn't do today. Then up past the Lighthouse to make it a an 8km loop. There were quite a few people out walking and all gave a friendly "Good Morning!" (a big tick for the locals). My pace was a bit slower today as I was still feeling a bit sore in the legs from Sunday's long run (19km) which was the longest I've done for a while.
